ASDS Launches the Visiting Professor Program

Recognizing a need for more access to and better quality education on cosmetic procedures, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS, www.asds.net) has launched the Visiting Professor Program, which invites ASDS members to visit dermatology residency programs in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to lecture, demonstrate and share their expertise with residents. “The ASDS often receives requests from residents across the country, who would like added exposure to cosmetic procedures—beyond what’s taught in their own residency programs,” says Susan Weinkle, MD, president of the ASDS. “Furthermore, we recognize the challenges faced by program directors who may have limited resources to provide training in certain areas of dermatology. Today’s practitioner must be equipped to handle increasing patient demand for antiaging, body sculpting and other cosmetic procedures.”
The focus areas for the first year’s program include chemical peels, lasers, liposuction, vein treatments, and injectables, including both fillers and neurotoxins.
The 2012 visiting professors are:
• R. Rox Anderson, MD, Boston, (lasers)
• Harold J. Brody, MD, Atlanta (chemical peeling for photoaging and scarring; microdroplet silicone for scarring; and HIV lipoatrophy)
• Alastair Carruthers, MD, FRCPC, Vancouver, BC, Canada (injectables and cosmetic procedures)
• Mitchel P. Goldman, MD, San Diego, CA (cosmetic surgery, including phlebology, sclerotherapy and laser surgery)
• Thomas E. Rohrer, MD, Chestnut Hills, MA (Mohs surgery, reconstruction, laser treatments, dermal fillers and neuromodulators)
• E. Victor Ross, MD, San Diego, CA (laser and cosmetic dermatology)
