ISPA Presents Jane Iredale with Visionary Award

Jane Iredale, founder of Iredale Mineral Cosmetic ( has been selected as the recipient of the International SPA Association (ISPA) 2014 ISPA Visionary Award, which will be presented during the 24th annual ISPA Conference & Expo at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas (October 13 - 15, 2014).

"Jane has been a supporter and leader of the spa industry since day one," said ISPA President Lynne McNees. "She has made great strides in reaching women of all ages and nationalities and working to improve their self-confidence."

Ellman International Enters Body Treatment Market

Ellman International, maker of the radiofrequency-based Pelleve facial skin-tightening system, has received FDA clearance to market its new PelleFirm RF Body Treatment System. The PelleFirm System is CE Marked for body skin tightening and cellulite reduction. In addition, it also has received FDA 510(K) clearance for tissue heating and the temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite. The PelleFirm handpieces are powered by the Pelleve S5 RF Generator, which also powers the Pelleve Wrinkle Reduction handpieces for facial skin tightening.

Syneron Medical Acquires New Star Lasers

Syneron Medical has entered into an agreement to acquire New Star Lasers, which conducts business as CoolTouch, for approximately $11 million in cash and earn out based on certain milestones of up to $4 million until end of 2015. New Star Lasers develops, manufactures and markets the CoolTouch family of aesthetic devices. Syneron anticipates the acquisition will close this month (March 2014).

DEKA Medical Receives FDA Clearance for the Synchro REPLA:Y

DEKA Medical, a developer and distributor of light-based aesthetic systems, has received FDA clearance to market its Synchro REPLA:Y aesthetic workstation for permanent hair reduction, treatment of PFB, treatment of benign pigmented lesions, treatment of wrinkles, and photocoagulation of dermatological vascular lesions. The platform includes three different energy sources: a 755nm Alexandrite laser, a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser and intense pulsed light with five filters.

Miramar Labs Secures $10 Million in Series D Funding

Miramar Labs, a medical device manufacturer and maker of the miraDry System, announced that it has raised $10 million in Series D funding from Aisling Capital, Cross Creek Capital, Domain Associates, Morgenthaler Ventures and RusnanoMedInvest. The new investment will be used to expand sales activities around the world, support commercialization efforts and support R&D efforts on products for new indications.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals to Acquire PreCision Dermatology

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International has entered into a definitive agreement under which Valeant will acquire PreCision Dermatology, Inc. for $475 million in cash, plus an additional $25 million payable upon the achievement of a sales-based milestone. PreCision develops and markets dermatology products, including Locoid, Hylatopic, Clindagel, and BenzEFoam. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2014.
