Kirschner Named Spirit of Life Honoree

Harlan Kirschner, CEO of The Kirschner Group, a global sales organization in the professional beauty industry, will be honored with City of Hope’s 2014 Spirit of Life Award. The philanthropic honor is presented annually to an industry leader who has demonstrated outstanding business and altruistic achievement. The award will be presented on July 12, 2014 in Las Vegas. City of Hope is a leading research, treatment and education center for cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases.

ASLMS Introduces Public Policy Director

George J. Hruza, MD, MBA, of Chesterfield, Missouri, has been named Public Policy Director for the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS). This is a new position. According to the Society’s board policies, “The Public Policy Director shall identify and prioritize relevant state and federal legislative and regulatory proposals that relate to this purpose and impact members of the ASLMS.”

Valeant Pharmaceuticals Completes Acquisition Of Solta Medical

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International has completed its acquisition of aesthetic device manufacturer Solta Medical at a price of $2.92 per share in cash, or approximately $250 million in the aggregate. Pursuant to the terms of the merger agreement, the wholly owned subsidiary of VPI merged with and into Solta on January 23, 2014. Solta has become a wholly owned subsidiary of VPI, and the common stock of Solta will no longer be listed for trading on the NASDAQ Global Select Market.

Galderma S.A. has appointed industry veteran Stuart Raetzman to CEO of Galderma Laboratories, L.P. and vice president, North America. The position becomes effective March 1, 2014. Raetzman was also elected to the company's Global Executive Committee and will report directly to Humberto C. Antunes, president and CEO of Galderma S.A.

Suneva Medical Announces 12-Month Safety Results From ArteFill Acne Scar Study

Suneva Medical has released 12-month follow-up data from its pivotal acne scar investigational study evaluating the safety and efficacy of its dermal filler ArteFill to treat acne scars. The treatment as performed in the study was shown to be safe and well tolerated at 12 months. Any treatment-related adverse events were expected, predominantly mild and resolved in a short period of time.

ADCS Clinics To Acquire Ohio Dermatology Clinic

Advanced Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery (ADCS) announced that it will acquire Mason Dermatology in Mason, Ohio. Founded in 1989 by Matt Leavitt, MD, ADCS is a dermatology-focused practice with more than 70 clinics in Florida and Ohio providing clinical, cosmetic, surgical and pathology services. ADCS also provides billing and coding management services for dermatology practices under the Ameriderm trade name.

George Hambrick, Jr., MD: In Memoriam

George Hambrick, Jr., MD, dermatologist and co-founder of the American Skin Association, passed away in his home in Charlottesville, Virginia, on December 10 at the age of 91. Dr. Hambrick devoted more than 50 years to helping advance the study and teaching of dermatology, heading dermatology departments at three university medical schools.
Dr. Hambrick was a native of Charlottesville, and attended Concord College (now Concord University) in West Virginia and the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
