Hruza Takes the Helm at ASLMS

George J. Hruza, MD, MBA, is the new president of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (www.aslms.org). A clinical professor of dermatology and otolaryngology at St. Louis University and director of the Laser & Dermatologic Surgery Center in St. Louis, Dr. Hruza has been a member of the ASLMS for 25 years. He previously served as the organization’s president-elect, vice president and treasurer. “Our patients rely on us to provide them with safe and effective laser treatments,” said Dr. Hruza when he assumed his new duties as president on April 21, 2012. “We need to be advocates for patient safety by supporting sensible laser regulations and an unbiased resource for the FDA as they decide about what energy-based devices to approve. Our research program has already funded $1,350,000 in original laser research. I plan to set our sights a lot higher through the development of a self-sustaining endowment fund.”
Additional ASLMS officers named include:
Jeffrey Dover, MD, president-elect
Juanita Anders, MD, vice president
Elizabeth Tanzi, MD, Secretary
Mathew Avram, MD, Treasurer
Stuart Nelson, MD, Historian
