Patients who used Stratacel, a silicone-based wound dressing, following fractional radiofrequency (RF) microneedling experienced less erythema than those who used Aquaphor, according to a recent split-face study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (February 12, 2019). Michael H. Gold, MD, and Julie Biron, BSc, treated 20 patients with full-face fractional RF microneedling (EndyMed Pro Intensif Handpiece). The patients applied Stratacel (Stratpharma SG) and Aquaphor (Beiersdorf), which acted as the control, immediately after the procedure and daily for seven days postprocedure. Digital and 3D Images were taken at days 2, 3 and 7.
All patients healed properly with no reported adverse reactions to the topical products. At each study visit, erythema on the Stratacel-treated area was significantly reduced compared to control. Patients also preferred Stratacel citing parameters such as feel on skin, drying time and stickiness.
