Dr. Johnny Franco is a board-certified plastic surgeon and the founder of Austin Plastic Surgeon in Austin, Texas. Originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico, he is bilingual in English and Spanish.
He earned his B.S. in Biochemistry from Beloit College and his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where his academic work earned the Merck Index Award, the Walter S. Haven Prize, and the Elizabeth W. Souter Award. He completed his plastic surgery residency at Saint Louis University as chief resident. He went on to train in microsurgery and cancer reconstruction at Chang Gung Hospital in Taiwan, followed by a fellowship in breast reconstruction and fat transfer at Gent University Hospital in Belgium.
Dr. Franco teaches and presents annually at ASAPS, ASPS, and TSPS, serves as Clinical Faculty at UT Dell Medical School, and is a peer reviewer for Aesthetic Surgery Journal and Annals of Plastic Surgery. He is a national trainer for multiple industry partners and sits on the advisory boards of RealSelf, Yes Doctor, Bioaesthetics, and Apex Medical.
After losing weight himself on semaglutide and tirzepatide, he built one of the country's first structured medical weight loss programs inside a plastic surgery practice, now serving surgical and non-surgical patients across Austin and San Antonio.
He hosts the podcast Plastic Surgery Untold, has been featured on the Dana Cortez Show. . Austin Plastic Surgeon has grown to three locations, four partners, nearly 70 team members, and a fully certified in-house surgery center. Dr. Franco is a past president of the Austin Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and has won multiple Best Plastic Surgeon and Best Plastic Surgery Center awards from the Austin American-Statesman's Best of the Best. He is an active member of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
