A recent MedEsthetics article by Robyn Siperstein, M.D., FAAD, explored how artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) are redefining how cosmetic and medical dermatologists approach patient consultations, "making our diagnostic procedures, treatment planning and outcomes more efficient and effective." She explains, "In the ever-evolving realms of aesthetics, medical and cosmetic dermatology, a remarkable revolution propelled by the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) technologies has unfolded. This transformation is fundamentally altering how practitioners approach diagnostics, treatment planning and patient engagement."
One significant advance recently made in the area of AI imaging and diagnostics is making the detection and tracking of skin cancer easier and more accurate than ever. In our upcoming 2024 SCALE show highlight, we will be discussing a new device, the oVio360, utilizing 360° imaging with AI skin analysis capable of pinpointing precise areas across the skin where skin cancer could be a concern and classifying them into different levels of skin cancer risk. This includes everything from small signs to keep track of and assess further in future appointments to spots that are high risk and need immediate attention. This same imaging system can then be used to track the progress of these areas, updating the analysis each time to see if any areas have changed classification and need to be either monitored more closely or have progressed to being immediate concerns.
In our recent survey which asked, Are you interested in novel advances in AI imaging for skin cancer detection and tracking? 93% of readers said yes and 7% said no.
Considering the kind of impact this kind of precision AI imaging diagnostic technology could have on the problem of skin cancer altogether and encouraging better sun protection practices in patients, knowing the advances in AI imaging for skin cancer detection and tracking are vital to protecting your patients.
