The American Academy of Dermatology’s 69th Annual Meeting, held in New Orleans in February 2011, had an attendance of more than 16,500 people from more than 90 countries. The meeting also included more than 1,400 speakers, 680 scientific posters and more than 400 exhibitors.
In conjunction with the meeting, the AAD held a “Dermatology in Action” service initiative in the New Orleans area. Academy members helped to improve garden space in the lower ninth ward that will be used to provide farm-fresh produce; painted education-themed murals; donated math and English books for use in tutoring; and collected donations of medical supplies for the Tulane Community Health Center.
