At Plastic Surgery the Meeting, taking place on Oct. 9-12 in New Orleans, Biocorneum, who created Silishield scar gel for plastic surgeons and their patients experiencing scarring and trauma inflammation post-op, will unveil three new products at the show: two specifically for bruising and one that expands on its original scar treatment line.
After Botox, liposuction, sclerotherapy and dermal fillers, bruising is very common. So, staying in the momentum of Biocorneum’s solutions for post-op healing, the brand is launching two additions to aid in comfort after aesthetic treatments, including a bruise cream. Working alongside these pre-existing topicals and the new topical is a bruise supplement, working intrinsically as small blood vessels beneath the skin break when bruises form.
Biocorneum's new products combine arnica, bromelain and vitamin K and E to support internal healing.Courtesy of BiocorneumThe new bruise cream is specially formulated to target bruising caused by everyday bumps as well as cosmetic procedures, blending arnica oil, emu oil, vitamin K, vitamin E and green tea extract. These ingredients were implemented into this new formula to boost circulation, calm inflammation and protect the skin during the healing process. The lightweight formula features a natural floral scent—suited for daily use twice a day, beginning one week before and continuing after procedures or physical trauma.
The new bruise supplement, however, supports bruise management and recovery before and after procedures with a two-capsule daily regimen, combining arnica as well, like the new topical, along with acerola extracts and bromelain to reduce inflammation. Vitamin K2 in the supplement helps strengthen blood vessels.
Arnica is a herbal remedy used in European and Native American culture to treat pain after traumatic injuries, particularly to promote wound healing and prevent hematomas. Science Direct states that its anti-inflammatory effects differ from NSAIDs, a common medication for pain reduction, such as aspirin [1].
In a randomized, placebo-controlled study using arnica, there was no observed difference in swelling from both parties immediately after using. However, two weeks after surgery, there was a significant reduction in pain reported for patients receiving arnica [1].
Lastly, Biocorneum is expanding its original scar treatment line with this third new product, a non-SPF option, called SiliSilk. This product is a professional-grade silicone gel that delivers thick coverage for post-op scar care, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, creating an oxygenated and moisture-rich environment to support natural skin repair from environmental stressors.
