2021 Trends for Every Hair Type

Jan 8th, 2021
Unite Hair

Let’s be real for a sec: None of us know what 2021 is going to throw at us. Rest assured, dear reader, that despite mounting unpredictability, your hair can still look fierce and on-trend.

UNITE Hair ambassador and celebrity stylist, Graham Nation (@grahamnation) shared his predictions for 2021’s biggest trends for every hair type. Whether you have long hair, curly hair or enhance your look with extensions or wigs, these trends and products will help you serve looks over the next 12 months.

Long Hair

“I think we’ll see more snatched ponytails, ponytail clip-ins and more thought-out hair looks. People are going to want to go the “extra mile” to put themselves together when doing their hair in the new year, especially since we weren’t able to do much in 2020,” Graham states.

To keep those long locks looking healthy, he recommends using a protein-rich shampoo and conditioner, like UNITE’s RE:UNITE System, every time you wash to replenish, repair and prevent breakage to your long locks.

Short Hair

Does the changing of the calendar have you thinking to yourself “new year, new me”? 2021 could be the year you make the big chop. Graham predicts that bobs will be one of the biggest (and chicest) trends of the year.

“The Bob will always have a big place in my heart. Just at or below the chin, a blunt but textured cut into the layers so you get the movement when you add a curling iron or seamless when you straighten. I absolutely love UNITE’S TEXTURIZA Spray to really bring out the movement of a nice haircut.”

Straight Hair

According to Graham, straight hair doesn’t mean boring and lifeless. “I love seeing straight hair that has volume and movement in the haircut. To achieve this look, I recommend blow-drying your hair with the BOOSTA Volumizing Spray from UNITE to help give your roots some lift and once you are done, finish the straight look off with TEXTURIZA Foam to add some extra movement in the seamless layers.”

Curly Hair

Bottom line: Great curls are the product of a great cut. “Seeing curly styles with shape in the haircut brings curls to life. It’s all about embracing the shape. For curly/kinky hair, I recommend using BOING Leave-In Conditioner to help hydrate your beautiful curls then apply BOING Defining Curl Cream. Its coconut-infused formula activates curls by delivering nutrients deep into the hair shaft, restoring and sealing in moisture—curls stay controlled, defined and frizz-free all day.”

Polished Hairstyles

Could this be the end of the beach waves’ era? According to Graham, the beachy/boho vibe may come to an end in 2021. “I foresee softer waves, straighter and shinier hair, and more polished hair this year. UNITE’s LAZER Straight System is perfect for fighting frizz all day long.”

Extensions & Wigs

“Wigs have always been around, but in the new year, I think more women will wear them to experiment with new looks for fun. Sew-in wefts have grown in popularity over the past few years now and I expect to see even more of them in 2021,” Graham notes.

“A great way to help blend your extensions and wigs is by using a root spray. UNITE’s GONE IN 7SECONDS ROOT Touch-Up Spray offers a seamless way to blend extensions for every occasion while giving more fullness to the look.”

Color

“I think we’ll see a lot more redheads across the board: ginger reds, deep reds, cool and warm redheads all in the new year. So much goes into play when choosing a hair color with a hairstyle. Skin tone plays a big role with me and my clients when choosing a great color. Face shape is also super important when selecting a style. But, above all, I think it comes down to the person and their style. Just like clothing, you want your clients to feel comfortable, beautiful and 100% themselves.”
