Facial aging involves more than changes to the skin surface, prompting a shift toward technologies and protocols designed to address multiple anatomical layers.
Following the UK launch of Superboost, a needle-free facial rejuvenation system designed to combine deep skin infusion with facial muscle stimulation, MedEsthetics spoke with Kelly Colman, co-Director of Superboost UK, about the evolution of non-invasive lifting, the shift toward multi-layer rejuvenation and what’s next for personalized aesthetic treatments.

Your launch materials reference a broader shift toward "multi-layer rejuvenation." How has the industry's understanding of facial aging changed over the past five years, and why are providers increasingly moving beyond skin-only treatments?
Over the past five years, the industry’s understanding of facial aging has evolved significantly. We now recognise that aging is not simply a skin issue, it affects multiple layers of the face, including skin quality, fat pads, muscle activity, bone structure, and overall facial proportions. This deeper understanding has shifted the focus from treating isolated concerns to taking a more holistic, multi-layer approach to rejuvenation.
At the same time, client expectations have changed. Today’s patients are generally less interested in dramatic transformations and more focused on looking refreshed, healthy, and the best version of themselves. They want to look in the mirror and still recognise their own features, rather than feeling as though they’ve been altered to fit a particular aesthetic trend.
As a result, providers have had to evolve alongside these changing demands. We know that no single treatment can address every aspect of facial aging, which is why bespoke treatment planning has become increasingly important. A combination of technologies, professional skincare, and complementary treatments often delivers the most natural and effective outcomes.
This is where Superboost stands apart. Rather than attempting to be a standalone solution, it works intelligently alongside a tailored treatment prescription, helping practitioners address multiple layers of the aging process while maintaining natural-looking results. By considering factors such as face shape, muscle dynamics, skin health, and individual aesthetic goals, providers can create truly personalised treatment plans that enhance a client’s appearance without compromising what makes them unique.

Many aesthetic experts distinguish between skin tightening and true tissue lifting. How does Superboost fit into that conversation, and how do you define "lifting" in a non-surgical setting?
Skin tightening generally refers to improving the firmness, elasticity, and quality of the skin itself, while lifting involves enhancing the position, tone, and support of the underlying tissues to create a more elevated and sculpted appearance.
Superboost is designed to address both aspects through its unique two-phase approach, which is why we describe it as ‘Beauty with a Brain’.
In the first phase, Superboost uses a bespoke cocktail of boosters infused into the skin to help tighten, rejuvenate, brighten, and refresh the complexion. This phase focuses on improving skin quality, hydration, and overall radiance.
The second phase focuses on lifting. Using a unique neurofeedback communication system, Superboost works with the body’s natural pathways to stimulate facial muscles, helping to sculpt, lift, and tone the face. In a non-surgical setting, we define lifting as creating a visibly more elevated, contoured, and supported appearance through improved muscle tone and tissue support, rather than physically repositioning tissues through surgery.
By combining advanced skin rejuvenation with muscle stimulation and toning, Superboost delivers a comprehensive approach that addresses both skin quality and facial contouring. This is what makes Superboost a unique treatment and why it is described as a 100% non-surgical facelift, helping clients achieve a firmer, more lifted, and refreshed appearance without surgery or downtime.
Superboost targets both the skin and facial muscles. Why do you believe muscle stimulation is becoming a more important part of aesthetic rejuvenation protocols?
Muscle stimulation is becoming an increasingly important part of aesthetic rejuvenation because facial aging affects not only the skin but also the underlying musculature. Over time, facial muscles can lose tone and strength, contributing to sagging, changes in facial contours, and a less lifted appearance. While traditional skincare and many aesthetic treatments primarily focus on improving skin quality, addressing the muscular layer can help support the structures beneath the skin.
By stimulating facial muscles, treatments may help enhance muscle tone, improve facial definition, and complement skin-focused benefits such as increased firmness and elasticity. This more comprehensive approach recognises that effective rejuvenation involves multiple tissue layers - not just the skin surface. As clients increasingly seek natural-looking results, combining skin rejuvenation with muscle stimulation offers a holistic strategy that can help restore a healthier, more youthful appearance without creating an overtreated look.

What are patients asking for today that they weren't asking for five or ten years ago when it comes to skin brightening, tightening and facial rejuvenation?
Patients today are looking for results that are natural, preventative, and comprehensive rather than dramatic or corrective. Five or ten years ago, many patients were primarily focused on addressing visible signs of aging such as wrinkles or skin laxity. Today, they are increasingly interested in maintaining skin health, preserving facial structure, and achieving a refreshed appearance before significant aging occurs.
When it comes to skin brightening, patients are asking for treatments that improve overall skin quality, radiance, and evenness of tone while minimizing downtime. For tightening and rejuvenation, there is growing demand for non-invasive or minimally invasive solutions that address multiple layers of aging—from the skin surface to the underlying muscles and supportive tissues.
This is where technologies like Superboost are particularly relevant. Patients are increasingly seeking treatments that can address multiple concerns simultaneously, whilst improving skin brightness and texture and also supporting facial firmness and muscle tone. Rather than relying on a single approach, they want comprehensive solutions that deliver both immediate radiance and long-term rejuvenation.
Patients are also much more informed than they were in the past. They often seek personalised treatment plans, combination therapies, and technologies that deliver gradual, natural-looking improvements rather than obvious changes. Overall, the trend has shifted from simply treating aging to proactively improving skin health and facial vitality, and treatments such as Superboost align well with this more holistic approach to facial rejuvenation.
Do you see the future of aesthetic rejuvenation moving toward stacked protocols that address skin quality, collagen stimulation and muscle tone simultaneously rather than relying on a single treatment modality?
Superboost has been designed with this philosophy in mind. Through our bespoke cocktail range, we can target a variety of concerns including rejuvenation, lifting, hydration with hyaluronic acid, and skin brightening. More recently, the introduction of PDRN (salmon DNA) has allowed us to further support collagen production, skin repair, and overall skin regeneration, while our Acne Booster provides a targeted solution for clients struggling with breakouts and inflammation.
While Superboost offers an impressive range of treatment options within one platform, we strongly believe that layering treatments can often deliver the most comprehensive and long-lasting results. However, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. It all starts with a thorough consultation to understand the client’s primary concerns, desired outcomes, and the overall condition of their skin.
This is why we have introduced the A1 Skin Scanner into our assessment process. The technology allows us to analyse the skin on multiple levels, providing detailed insights into skin health that may not be visible to the naked eye. By combining this data with a clinical consultation, we can accurately diagnose the skin’s needs and prescribe the most effective treatment plan, whether that involves Superboost alone or a combination of complementary therapies.
Ultimately the future of aesthetics is about precision, personalisation, and treating the skin holistically to achieve natural, healthy, and sustainable results.
Historically, skin brightening focused on correcting discoloration. Today the term often encompasses radiance, hydration, barrier health and overall skin quality. How do you see the definition of skin brightening evolving?
As our understanding of skin health evolves, so too does the definition of skin brightening.
Historically, skin brightening focused on correcting pigmentation and discoloration. Today, it’s about much more than that. Patients are looking for healthy, radiant skin, which comes from good hydration, a strong skin barrier, improved texture, and overall skin quality.
The definition of brightening has evolved from simply treating dark spots to enhancing the skin’s natural glow and overall skin health. At Superboost, we support this through our bespoke treatment cocktails, which target concerns such as hydration, rejuvenation, brightening, and collagen stimulation.
With the addition of PDRN (salmon DNA), we can further promote skin repair and collagen production, helping to improve overall skin quality and radiance. Combined with our A1 Skin Scanner, we can accurately assess each client’s skin and create a personalised treatment plan that delivers brighter, healthier-looking skin from the inside out.

What emerging technologies or treatment approaches do you believe will have the biggest impact on skin brightening and lifting over the next three to five years?
The aesthetics industry is evolving rapidly, and so are our clients’ expectations. Thanks to social media and greater access to information, clients are more educated than ever before and expect both expertise and advanced technology. This means practitioners must stay at the top of their game, where skill and technology work hand in hand.
Over the next three to five years, I believe AI-driven skin analysis will have one of the biggest impacts on skin brightening and lifting treatments. Technologies such as the AI Skin Scanner allow us to assess the skin in greater detail, identify underlying concerns, and create truly personalised treatment plans. Just as importantly, they allow us to track progress over time and compare results from the first treatment through to follow-up appointments, providing both practitioners and clients with measurable outcomes.
We are also seeing a move towards more personalised treatment protocols that combine advanced technologies, regenerative ingredients such as PDRN, targeted skincare, and in-clinic treatments. The future is not about quick fixes, it’s about understanding the skin, treating it correctly, and creating long-term skin health.
Our priority is ensuring clients receive the right advice, the right treatments, and the best available technology, rather than chasing trends or opting for cheaper alternatives that can sometimes lead to poor or even detrimental results. As the industry continues to grow and innovate, we must continue to evolve with it to deliver the safest and most effective outcomes for our clients.
At Superboost, we call this “Beauty with a Brain.” Combining the latest technology with clinically driven treatments, Superboost is one of the most exciting innovations to enter the aesthetics market.
