Get the Look: 5 Nail How-Tos From New York Fashion Week 2022

Sep 15th, 2022
Gabby Bach
Orly International, Inc./Sparitual

New York Fashion Week took place Sept. 9–14, 2022. Plenty of stars and models were debuting hot nail looks on the runway your clients are going to want to have.

We have rounded up how-tos from five different NYFW shows that use ORLY and Aprés Nail products so you can learn how to recreate these looks with ease.

Susan Alexandra

The inspiration for this show was “a nod to the ‘90s with a Susan Alexandra Touch.” The ‘90s were all about square nails in vampy colors, metallic greens and blues, confetti, and of course, a classic French Tip.

Nail artist Holly Falcone created the looks. Saturday Night Live cast member Sarah Sherman had her nails done for the show. Here is how her ‘90s French manicure came together.

  1. Apply a thick band of ORLY White Tips across the top of a square-shaped nail.
  2. Apply two layers of ORLY x Lisa Frank Hits the Spot Confetti Topper.

Sandy Liang

The Sandy Liang show paid homage to uniforms. The inspiration for this look was pink ballet slippers but anime.

To create this look, Falcone used ORLY’s Can’t Jet Enough and Shining Armor.

Falcone says this about her inspiration for the look: “Going back to the uniform looks, this pays a nod to that ballet-inspired pink satin look, but make it anime. The metallic pink of Can’t Jet Enough is like the Sailor Moon punched up version of it.”

Priscavera

This collection features materials in so many colors and textures. Falcone decided to match the nail color and finish exactly with the materials. The nails were shaped into long almond shapes featuring everything from creamy bold reds, metallic golds, neon pinks, amber hues, bright yellows and more.

Falcone created a long hanging gem set as part of the nail looks for the collection.

ORLY’s Builder in the Bottle was essential to creating this look, as it can be used to create incredible 3D textures or to affix gems and crystals securely.

To create the look, apply one coat of bonder and two coats of the lacquer, then finish with Shining Armor Top Coat.

Batsheva

When speaking about her inspiration for the nail looks for the Batsheva show, Falcone says, “We took inspiration directly from Batsheva’s variety of prints, fabrics, models’ personalities and colors. The nail looks are a spin on the classic, elegant long nail, but they are longer, almond-shaped and feature more colorful shades and textures. Think hot pink, bold red, pastels, chromes, and shimmers.”

One look featured vintage rose nail art to match the stylist’s designs. Here is how Falcone created the look.

  1. Apply two coats of Happy Camper for the base.
  2. Using a detailer brush, hand paint the pink rose with Cool In California, outlined with Love My Nails and Plastic Jungle for the green flower stem.

Maisie Wilen

Nail artist Sojin Oh created the nail looks for Maisie Wilen’s Spring/Summer 2023 NYFW show using products from Aprés Nail.

The nail looks were inspired by the unique shades featured throughout the clothing line.

Some of the nail designs also featured a peekaboo nail look—one color on the top of the nail and another color on the inside of the nail. These looks were created using Aprés Nail Gel-X Tips.

To create the nail looks for this show, Oh used colors from a new Aprés Nail’s collection, Aprés Gel Couleur. The look featured the following colors from the collection: Ochre Okurrr, Yuri-Kai, Concrete Hustle, Pirouette Pout and Kung Fu Tortoise.
