On May 20, 2026, physician-founded scalp care ecosystem,Yobee, announced the launch of its new line of products designed to to support the spa industry.
The venture included partnerships with household brands, such as The Ritz-Carlton, Kohler Water Spas, and Hilton, which will feature Yobee’s products with proprietary PROBYOME Technology in scalp and hair treatments, massage and restorative body rituals, and facial and nail services focused on hydration and barrier repair.

MedEsthetics spoke with Yobee founder Ruchi Gupta, MD, MPH, a Harvard-trained physician and Northwestern University professor with more than 20 years of experience studying skin health and the microbiome, following the launch of the brand’s spa expansion.
In this exclusive Q&A, she shared new insights into the science driving the category’s rapid rise, expounds on how consumer behavior is shifting toward preventative “skinification” of scalp care, why therapist wellness is becoming central to protocol design, and where clinically grounded microbiome technology is setting itself apart in an increasingly crowded wellness landscape.
1) Scalp care is increasingly being positioned alongside skin longevity and preventative wellness. What shifts are you seeing in consumer behavior that convinced you this category was ready for a luxury spa expansion?
We are witnessing a profound shift from a reactive 'hair care' mindset to a preventative, longevity-focused 'skinification of the scalp' movement. Consumers no longer view the scalp in isolation; they recognize it as a direct extension of their facial skin. Just as we treat the facial ecosystem to prevent aging and maintain barrier integrity, the scalp requires the same sophisticated, root-cause attention.
Historically, scalp issues were relegated to clinical, medicated, and often harsh over-the-counter solutions that felt clinical rather than experiential. Today’s luxury spa guest demands efficacy and elegance. They are seeking out treatments that combine advanced, evidence-based clinical grade care with a deeply restorative sensory experience. When we saw guests actively looking for ways to address chronic dryness, chemical-induced sensitivity, and environmental barrier damage within their wellness rituals, we knew the category was ready for a premium clinically proven, barrier and microbiome supporting evolution.
2) Many spas are now looking for treatments that support both guest results and provider wellness. How intentional was the focus on therapist skin barrier protection when developing these protocols?
It was entirely intentional, and quite frankly, it is one of the aspects of our spa expansion that I am most proud of as a physician. In traditional spa protocols, therapists are repeatedly exposed to harsh exfoliants, stripping detergents, and essential oils that can degrade their own skin barriers over time, leading to occupational contact dermatitis and chronic irritation.
When we formulated Yobee, our goal was to support the skin barrier of everyone touching the product. Because our protocols utilize probiotic extracts, organic honey, tumeric and vitamin B12 rather than steroid derivatives or harsh chemicals, they act as an ongoing, therapeutic barrier-repair treatment for the provider. Hearing validation from leaders like Nikki Miller at Kohler Water Spas and Melissa Warren at The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island, noting that their therapists’ hands feel profoundly nourished and protected after delivering our treatments, affirms that sustainable wellness must encompass both the guest and the practitioner.
3) Microbiome-backed beauty has become a major buzzword, but many providers still struggle to explain it to patients and clients. What makes PROBYOME™ Technology clinically different from other microbiome-focused products entering the market?
The market is currently flooded with cosmetic products that simply throw 'probiotic' on the label as a marketing buzzword without clinical justification. What differentiates our patented PROBYOME™ Technology is its targeted, synergistic mechanism of action. We do not just put random bacteria into a bottle; we utilize specific, research-backed probiotic extracts combined with premium natural anti-inflammatories like organic honey, turmeric, and B12 to stabilize the ecosystem.
When explaining this to clients, I tell providers to use the analogy of a garden. Many microbiome products try to plant new seeds on barren, inflamed soil. PROBYOME™ acts as a master soil-conditioner. It calms the underlying inflammation, down-regulates the overgrowth of opportunistic pathobionts (like the yeast responsible for flaking and dandruff), and restores the optimal microscopic environment to nourish the skin barrier and hair follicles so they can naturally regenerate and stay healthy. It is a highly scientific approach to achieving what we call a 'Lifetime of Healthy™' skin and scalp, backed by peer-reviewed data showing an improvement in symptoms for over 90% of users.
4) You mention spa partners are helping shape new products and protocols. Can you share an example of feedback from estheticians or therapists that directly influenced product development?
Absolutely. This collaboration is the lifeblood of our professional line. The team at the Ritz Amelia Island, were the first to love the Yobee flagship Scalp Mask, it was developed primarily as a highly effective direct-to-consumer treatment. However, when our elite spa partner integrated it into the treatment room, the massage therapists and estheticians gave us invaluable feedback, noting that the mask had profoundly positive effects on the body's skin barrier in addition to the scalp. In fact, they loved it so much they integrated it into one of their most luxurious, head-to-toe healthy body wraps.
They then challenged us with a brilliant question: Could we formulate a dedicated body oil that delivered those same intense skin and scalp benefits, completely free of synthetic fragrances and harsh chemicals, that could safely be used on clients with sensitivities and chronic skin concerns?
We immediately went to work together, exchanging feedback on various prototypes. The result was our finalized Yobee Body Oil. It goes on effortlessly, absorbs without a greasy residue, and combines a premium blend of nourishing oils, targeted probiotic extracts, turmeric, and vitamin E. The therapists love using it and discuss the benefits for their own skin and hands.
The ultimate validation came from their lead massage therapist, who told us it was the single best oil he had ever used in his 30-year career. We deeply value the insights and suggestions of our hands-on spa partners, and we look forward to ongoing collaborations that push the boundaries of what the healthiest, most amazing spa experiences can be.
5) As scalp treatments become more integrated into medspa and wellness menus, where do you see the biggest opportunity for providers: retail revenue, service differentiation, or long-term patient retention?
The biggest opportunity actually sits at the intersection of all three, creating a powerful 'prescriptive flywheel' for the provider. However, if I had to highlight the most transformative element for a modern medspa or luxury wellness clinic, it is long-term patient retention through service differentiation.
The medspa market is highly saturated with standard facial treatments and injectables. Introducing a sophisticated, physician-founded scalp and skin ecosystem allows a spa to instantly differentiate its menu with a high-margin, results-driven wellness service. Because chronic scalp and barrier issues, like dryness and inflammation caused by years of chemicals and environmental toxins that can lead to itching, irritation, hair thinning and hair loss. In order to restore scalp health, we need to rebalance the microbiome and feed the follicles.
This requires consistent, ongoing maintenance, guests naturally transition from a single treatment room experience into a dedicated home-care ritual. When a provider can offer immediate relief to the one-in-two consumers suffering from these conditions, they move from being a luxury indulgence to a trusted, indispensable partner in that client's long-term health journey.
