Shed’s new product line of medical-grade oral and topical treatments, Hair Solutions Vertical, targets hair thinning and loss for men and women. Within the line are medications directed toward the biological and hormonal processes men and women uniquely experience affecting the hair follicle and growth phase.
The product line’s oral capsules and topicals work synergistically, per a July 10 press release, to reduce DHT, short for dihydrotestosterone. DHT is a hormone, specifically an androgen that stimulates the development of male characteristics during a male’s sexual development [1].
High levels of DHT can result in hair loss by shrinking hair follicles and shortening the hair growth cycle. The role of DHT changes throughout different life stages, and as an adult the body converts about 10% of its testosterone into DHT each day, hence why many men experience hair thinning and baldness with age [1].
The men’s oral capsules and topicals include ingredients combining finasteride, a medication used to treat male pattern hair loss, or androgenetic alopecia; minoxidil, a topical applied to the scalp, used to stimulate hair growth in adult men and women; and tretinoin, a retinol used to help increase the efficacy of minoxidil [2].
The capsules and topicals for women, on the other hand, target genetic hair loss, hormonal shifts, postpartum shedding or stress-induced fallout, per the release. Its ingredients also include minoxidil, as well as spironolactone—prescribed for androgenic alopecia in females. This condition is shown to cause hair loss due to too much of the testosterone hormone [3]. Women’s solutions under this line also include a copper peptide option for those seeking gentle support.
The line also addresses inflammation and stimulates follicles while supporting the natural hair growth cycle. Per the release, whether men and women are experiencing early-stage shedding or long-term thinning, the line’s approach reportedly intervenes according to the individual’s unique hair loss patterns and conditions.
“Most hair loss treatments on the market focus on surface-level fixes," said Shed CEO Morley Baker "We built these solutions to address the root causes—hormonal imbalance, inflammation, poor circulation, and nutrient delivery—using prescription-grade, science-backed ingredients personalized for each user."
