Peptides are no longer a niche, industry-cornered substance largely unknown to the general public. What started off as a skeptical biohacking novelty for the wealthy is now seen as health and wellness must-haves.

From the massive mainstream success of GLP-1 weight-loss medications to the skincare industry, where peptide-enhanced skin products have become the go-to solution, the emergence of peptides is more than a regulatory shift for healthcare operators, it's an indication of how preventive medicine, metabolic health, and emerging therapies are reshaping the industry.

Haircare is the latest frontier: According to a U.S. hair serum market report, growing concerns over hair loss are driving demand for targeted hair serum solutions with consumers increasingly seeking clean, natural, and multi-benefit formulations.

Similarly, major beauty brands are launching peptide-focused hair lines and scalp treatments. The Ordinary, a skincare brand by DECIEM, crossed into haircare with its Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density. Similarly, The Inkey List, a British skincare brand, launched peptide-focused scalp treatments, just this year.

MedEsthetics spoke to PURA D'OR formulator and PHD of Biochemistry, Dr. Sreerupa Ganguly following the launch of the American personal care brand's new advanced peptide hair and scalp serum who gave insight on the trend of peptides in haircare.

What specific trend or gap in the haircare/scalp market led PURA D’OR to develop a peptide-based scalp serum now?

Hair and beauty conversations have been shifting from "what does my hair look like today" to "what is happening at the scalp level," because the scalp is where every strand actually starts. PURA D'OR designed the Advanced Peptide Hair & Scalp Serum to live in that gap, it’s a lightweight, leave-in serum that goes beyond a single hero ingredient by pairing peptides with a broader scalp-wellness toolkit.

How do peptides function in scalp and hair health, and why are they a key part of this formulation?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids, the same building blocks your body already uses to build proteins such as keratin, the structural protein hair is made of. In a scalp serum, peptides such as Copper Tripeptide-1 are included to support the look and feel of a healthy scalp environment and to help condition the hair you have so it appears stronger, smoother and fuller. Our formula lets us focus on scalp health as the foundation, rather than only treating hair after damage shows up.

How does this serum differ from traditional hair oils, growth serums, or existing scalp treatments on the market?

Traditional hair oils sit mostly on top of the strand to add slip and shine and many "growth" serums lean on one or two well-known actives. This serum is a 25+ ingredient leave-in scalp treatment that combines peptides (Copper Tri-Peptide), antioxidants such as Carbon 60 (C60) and Catalase. Trichogen™, plant stem cell extract, melatonin, plus botanicals such as rosemary, saw palmetto, fo-ti, nettle, caffeine and ginseng and is designed to support scalp conditions from multiple angles. The texture is also intentionally lightweight and non-greasy as it works as a daily ritual rather than as a once-a-week mask.

What kinds of hair or scalp concerns is this designed to address most directly (e.g., thinning, shedding, postpartum, stress-related hair changes)?

It's formulated for people noticing thinner, finer-looking, or duller hair, including life-stage moments such as postpartum changes, stress-related shedding, hormonal shifts, or general age-related thinning where the scalp environment needs more support. It also speaks to scalp concerns such as dryness, dullness, build-up, and that "tight" or unbalanced feeling that can come from over-styling or product layering. The goal is healthier-looking, fuller-looking hair by supporting the scalp, where hair health starts.

What visible results or improvements can users realistically expect, and over what timeframe?

Hair grows on a slow biological cycle so this is a daily-use ritual, not an overnight fix. With consistent daily use, most people start noticing scalp comfort and an improvement in the way their hair feels softer, smoother, easier to style, within the first few weeks of use, and improvements in the look of fullness and density over roughly 8-12 weeks as new growth cycles through individual results vary. Pairing the serum with a gentle scalp-friendly shampoo and a balanced routine tends to deliver the most visible payoff.

How do you see scalp health fitting into the broader “skinification of hair” or preventative hair wellness movement?

Scalp health is part of the preventative hair wellness movement. For years, the scalp was treated as an afterthought; the skinification movement is essentially the beauty world catching up to the fact that the scalp is skin and treating it with the same intention you'd give your face changes long-term hair outcomes. Preventative hair wellness is about supporting the environment hair grows from hydration, microbiome balance, antioxidant support, gentle daily care, before visible thinning or damage starts. A leave-in serum such as this fits that exact moment in the category: a daily, scalp-first step that slots into a routine the way a facial serum does.

MedEsthetics also spoke to celebrity Hairstylist and PURA D’OR Partner Clyde Haygood who gave his perspective on hair and health.

How do you incorporate scalp health into your professional approach, and what do you see consumers getting wrong about hair care today?

As a celebrity hairdresser, I always want my client's hair in the best health and condition possible. A healthy scalp is the foundation of healthy hair plus consistent, gentle daily care with the right products and ingredients vs. sporadic "miracle" treatments.  As far as what people are getting wrong today, it’s either over-washing or under-washing.  Over washing hair can deplete strands of vitamins, minerals and cause dryness and breakage.  Under-washers are those who don’t wash their often and don’t realize that their hair is absorbing everything they come in contact with such as environmental toxins, smog, pollution and sweat plus product buildup.  All of these are absorbed in the hair and if you’re not washing it, they are sitting in your hair day after day and ignoring scalp build up.  My recommendation is the same philosophy as PURA D'OR's philosophy: take care of the scalp first with simple, daily, ingredient-forward steps and the look and feel of the hair follows.
