KeraLase is a scalp health treatment that uses Lutronic’s LaseMD Ultra Laser to create micro-channels in the scalp that can better absorb the active ingredients in KeraFactorMD, a serum by SkinQRI formulated with proprietary biomimetic synthetic versions of growth factors and proteins that restore scalp and follicle health.
These micro-channels created with the 1927nm wavelength can produce 5 to 7 times higher absorption of the nano liposomes found in the KeraFactorMD serum, according to the company.
KeraFactorMD is an updated, improved version of the original KeraFactor serum, with an additional growth factor and two compounds that allow it to be further activated by photodynamic red-light therapy. The serum is hormone free, drug-free, SLS-free, paraben free, sulfate-free, gluten free, cruelty-free and fragrance-free, making it safe for both men and women with all hair and skin types.
The KeraFactorMD Treatment Serum has eight different biosynthetic growth factors, including Follistatin, and compounds PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide)
and NanoFluorosomes.
“We are the only company that delivers growth factors in a particle size that can be absorbed and the only company to have Follistatin (a single-chain gonadal protein) in a topical formulation,” said James Bartholomeusz, co-founder of SkinQRI. “In our proprietary and patented formula, we have a compound called NanoFluorosomes, which is naturally anti-inflammatory and anti-androgenetic. We are seeing great success when pairing this with red light therapy to activate the NanoFluorosomes, giving our product the ability to combat DHT on the scalp.”
While KeraLase stimulates existing hair follicles that are resting or in dormant phase, it does not create new hair follicles—that can only be done with a hair transplant. The KeraFactorMD Serum can awaken dormant hairs, leading to an increase in density and thickness of hair, with more hairs per follicle and an increase in the diameter of the hairs per follicle.
“Hair is complex, there are many reasons why someone is losing hair,” Bartholomeusz said. “The key to success with scalp and follicle health treatments is finding the reason the patient is losing their hair in the first place, treating or managing this reason and truly getting the loss under control. Then KeraFactor and KeraLase help support the scalp’s health and restore the patient’s hair.”
Bartholomeusz, who is also the CTO of Lutronic, started to lose his hair in 2012. He worked with a colleague, Amy Forman Taub, M.D., FAAD, to create KeraFactor. Bartholomeusz was not satisfied with the solutions offered at the time, and Dr. Taub had been noticing an increase in hair loss among her patients. They saw a need for a product that was designed specifically for scalp and hair health.
“Lutronic was looking for a cutting-edge serum for the hair, and we looked for the best in-office delivery system for KeraFactor—it was the perfect pairing and timing,” Bartholomeusz said. “The LaseMD Ultra has the ability to create dry microchannels in the scalp, the ultimate way to prep the scalp and increase the absorption of KeraFactorMD serum.
KeraLase and KeraFactorMD are currently only available in North America and Australia, but SkinQRI plans to expand to Europe, United Kingdom and Asia.
