On July 25, 2025, Unilever marked the opening of its US fragrance lab, located within its existing R&D facility in Trumbull, Conn. The new lab is a piece of a €100 million investment to build in-house fragrance capabilities.

The new fragrance lab will serve as a collaborative space for perfumers, scientists and product developers. It will include state-of-the-art formulation tools and digital-first capabilities to accelerate the creation of unique scent experiences. The lab will feature a fragrance research and innovation space, a compounding facility and evaluation booths.

“The opening of our US fragrance lab is a bold step forward in accelerating how we innovate,” said associate director of the US Fragrance Creative Center Paula Campos. “This milestone strengthens our local expertise in a key market and equips our teams to move faster, combining cutting-edge science, digital technologies and consumer insights to craft more meaningful brand experiences with fragrances that truly resonate.”

According to the company’s press release, the new site will be digitally enabled end-to-end, including digital modeling, analytics and the use of AI to drive development.

The opening comes off the successful launch of Dove’s Garden Tea Party collection. This collection is the first in-house fragrance creation from Unilever, developed by its US-based team.
