Dr. Michael Bassiri-Tehrani is a double board-certified ENT/Head and Neck Surgeon as well as Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon who exclusively treats the face, head, and neck with an office in Manhattan, New York.

While rhinoplasties procedures are the most sought-after surgical procedure for teenagers, he started to see patients in their late 30s to 50s considering the procedure, signaling a shift in the operation's longstanding perspective.

“Patients in their late 30s to 50s often like their nose overall, but have noticed subtle changes with age - such as drooping or a more rounded, bulbous tip,” says Dr. Bassiri-Tehrani. “They’re not looking for dramatic transformations; instead, they want refinements that help them look like the best version of themselves.”

What’s driving this trend? Dr. Bassiri-Tehrani says rhinoplasties are no longer viewed as a one-size-fits-all surgery. Today the procedure is better understood as a spectrum of possibilities.

“Most people don’t realize that rhinoplasty can mean a wide range of procedures. It isn’t always a dramatic, full surgery. For example, we can do a tip-only or bridge-only rhinoplasty, leaving much of the nose intact. This approach often improves recovery time, minimizes breathing complications, and delivers natural, subtle results that preserve the features patients already like about themselves.”

“Unlike younger patients, they’re less motivated to make noticeable changes or ‘prove’ anything. They also tend to be in a more comfortable financial position, which allows them to choose subtle, high-quality results without overdoing it.”
