Energy-based device company, Cynosure Lutronic, received clearance for its XERF system, a radiofrequency technology for skin tightening, in August 2025. The XERF system provides multi-frequency monopolar RF treatment.
Predominantly manufacturing lasers and RF devices, this device was created by Cynosure to tighten skin without the need for numbing, needles or downtime, meant for all skin types, per an Aug. 18 press release. Since this is a monopolar RF treatment, the device combines 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz frequencies, enabling providers to deliver energy at multiple tissue depths, including to heat the fibrous septa for reportedly lasting tightening effects.

Cooling technology is also built into the device to follow the effects of these frequencies. Wave Fit Pulse and Integrated Cryogen Delivery work in tandem to regulate energy delivery while the skin is being tightened and to maintain surface temperature for a comfortable treatment, enforcing the fact that it doesn't require numbing to deliver.
The tip delivering these dual frequencies is designed with a spider pattern. This style was intended to reduce skin edge effects, control the treatment environment and prioritize patient safety. “The XERF system incorporates the newest technology to safely deliver energy deeper down in the skin, while offering intelligent cooling for superior protection and patient comfort,” said Jordan V. Wang, MD, medical director of Laser & Skin Surgery Center in Pennsylvania.
Lowinn Kibbey, president at Cynosure Lutronic North America, said “The U.S. market represents one of the largest and most dynamic aesthetics markets in the world, and we’re proud to now offer patients and providers access to a breakthrough skin-tightening solution that delivers powerful results with a more comfortable, non-invasive experience.”
